Aultcliff (Ault & Tunnicliffe) lustre vase with silver mount

This vase has been a particular favourite of mine because of the glorious glaze and the simplicity if shape. However having the pleasure owning it for nearly 20 years I have decided that it is time for it to find someone else who will love it. It does not really need any description other than to say that the base has the ATLTD England impressed mark in a circular cartouche used during the period 1923 - 1937 and the remnants of the printed black "Autcliff Made in England" mark. The silver mount is hallmarked for silver, Birmingham 1922/3 and with the sponsor's mark "A.S.P.Co" for Angora Silver Plate Co, in a rectangular cartouche.

Approximate dimensions:
Weight: 13.8ozs - 391gms
Height: 6.57ins - 16.7cms
Diameter: 3.31ins - 8.4cms

Ault Pottery
William Ault is probably best known for his innovative use of coloured glazes. He left Bretby when he was 46 years old and set up his pottery at Swadlincote near Burton-on-Trent in 1887. Christopher Dresser designed for him in the 1890s.
In 1923 Ault Pottery merged with Ashby Potters’ Guild and beame known as Ault and Tunnicliffe and used an intricate “ATLTD” impressed mark or the word “Aultcliff”. During the period 1923-37.
From 1937 – 1975 the firm traded as Ault Potteries Ltd.

Angora Silver Plate Co. (A.S.P.Co)
